Early Trout season can be a strange time. It often takes a while to get going but when it finally does, the sport can be spectacular.
After living on subsistence rations over the winter and early spring, the Trout are suddenly presented with an abundance of food which can spark a feeding frenzy that gets even the big boys excited.
Hatches of March Browns Large Dark Olives, Grannom, Mayfly etc can result in the fish feeding hard from the surface and the resultant dry fly sport being as good as it gets.
Now is a great time to be out on the water but it won’t last for long. As summer takes a grip we can expect the fishing to get a little more challenging. Low, clear water, smaller invertebrates, high water and air temperatures can put the brakes on the action so get out and make the most of the opportunity.
Here are a few pics of some truly wonderful days, people and of course fish that I’ve had the pleasure to encounter so far this season.
