When I got the call from Ron to ask if I was interested in exploring a new stretch of the River Dee, I of course jumped at it.
Although this stretch is owned by The Bangor-on-Dee Salmon Anglers Association (BODSAA), The Hoylake Fly Fishers Club (HFFC) are also allowed to fish it on their ticket.
To date, I haven’t made the best use of my HFFC membership so with glowing reports from last weeks casting evening still ringing in my ears, I decided it was time to check it out.
Initial impressions were great, it looked very fishy! Trout-wise though, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Lots of good Grayling were caught but on this occasion, we only found a few small Brownies.
Ah well, we’ll just have to go back and try again!
The bottom fish is a dace, easily mistaken for a chub.
You might well be right Martin, thanks! It’s a while since I’ve seen either! ?
