After having an impending birthday gathering postponed by the Prime Minister, Mike was left looking for alternative ways to celebrate his upcoming ‘big‘ birthday.

The full extent of Mikes importance cannot be divulged on these pages, suffice it to say that he had his chauffeur, Brian drive him up to the Dee for a days fishing.

 

Like many anglers, Mike and Brian were a little wary of the Dee’s reputation. The wading can be treacherous in places but I assured them that there would be no such issues on our chosen beats.

Both men are seasoned dry fly fishermen and the conditions looked promising even though the Dee was just above it’s preferred height. Sadly though, most of the Grayling stayed locked to the river bed and less than a handful of fish took flies from the surface.

As you’d expect though, skill, experience and persistence paid off and everyone caught on both dry fly and nymph.

 

These two gentlemen spend a lot of time fishing together and they shared numerous tales of their past fishing adventures.
It was an absolute pleasure to spend the banter-filled day with them.
