Busmans Holiday… 2nd July

July 5, 2017

What do you buy a fly fishing instructor for xmas? A day’s fly fishing apparently!
This was no ordinary day though, it was to be a day on the insect and fish crammed river Wye in Derbyshire.
Even so, a day on the Wye can be as frustrating as it is fruitful. Gin clear shallow water, lots of submerged and bankside vegetation and very spooky, wily fish make this water a challenge for any angler.

Although this was meant to be a Mayfly excursion, its initial cancellation due to bad weather resulted in us being able to add a second day as guests of our friends Steve and Hilary.
It in fact turned out to be ‘the gift that keeps on giving’ as a third day developed after I was asked to give a few pointers to Steve’s friend Phil on his local river, the Derwent.

Day One, Cressbrook and Litton Day Ticket Water.

This is a feature packed 3/4 of a mile of double bank Fly fishing for Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. Perfect wild examples of these species thrive here but some stocking allows visitors to take fish if they really want to.
The habitat produces hard fighting Browns and Rainbows in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.
