Crisis, What Crisis? … 23rd August

August 26, 2019

With the situation on Toddbrook reservoir back under control, the club has allowed fishing to resume on the river Goyt.

Although the river was still high, I was no longer periodically gazing back over my shoulder for the predicted tidal wave which made for a much more relaxed afternoon.

Truth be told, the river had benefited from the recent high water as it had flushed out the moss and algae and generally freshened everything up.

As water levels change, some usually ‘dead’ areas can become good fish holding spots so it’s good practice to explore the river at different heights.

Today I found some cracking fish in areas that usually hold very little water and with my trusty nymph box to hand, it was business as usual.

A little colour and depth can completely change the way a river fishes
The best Brownie to the net but a larger one got the better of me later.
This huge Grayling took a nymph in the steady water.

Another lovely, fin perfect Goyt Grayling.
