Day 3 … One Man’s Rubbish…19th May

May 21, 2018

To paraphrase the popular idiom, One mans rubbish is another mans gold. Whilst the current conditions were rubbish for Salmon fishing, they provided us with a golden opportunity to fish some very special beats which would otherwise have been off limits to us.

Day 3 was a similar story. This time we were fishing the Warwick Hall stretch of the Eden that had again been forsaken by today’s Salmon fishermen.

Another bright sunny day saw plenty of airborne flies but little interest from the fish. Today all the fish came to suspended nymphs and again they were tough to find in the shallow, still and in some places, almost stagnant water.

A few giant Grayling were caught that would normally have you beaming from ear to ear but as they are OOS until mid June, they were slipped back with the minimum of fuss.

We fished for a long time but with such bright conditions, there were a few more breaks than normal to rehydrate and take in the sheer beauty of this spot.

Locals say the river is as low as it’s ever been and a few are even praying for rain. Careful!

The Eden was slow and almost stagnant in places!
Into a sipper from the slow water
Beautiful Trout in the summer sun.
Chiara hogging the best run!
One from the fast flowing water
A wedding was held at Warwick Hall today. No, not THAT wedding.
