Double Take…5th August

August 14, 2018

I can’t tell you how impressed I was with returning American client, Michael.
He and his wife Barbara were arriving in England on Friday to attend a family wedding the following day. They were planning to return home to Connecticut on the Monday but he had somehow managed to squeeze in a days fly fishing on the on Sunday!

Initially I was slightly concerned that Barbara’s attendance was merely ‘repayment’ for Michael having to endure a family wedding, because being a petty man, thats how I would have worked it.

However my concerns were soon dispelled as Barbara was as enthusiastic as her husband. She even revealed that she is helping him train for his impending casting instructors exam!

They had chosen to fish the stunningly beautiful River Wye in Derbyshire’s Monsal Dale and I was granted permission to guide them on the day ticket stretch that is controlled by the Cressbrook and Litton Fly Fishers club.

The uncharacteristicly warm weather had shrunk the Wye down to a mere trickle in places but they made the very most of their day on this famous river.
It is so famous in fact that it was featured only weeks before in the BBC programme “Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing”

It appears that having acquired a taste for the limelight, one of the locals was keen to reprise their starring role!

Barbara was first off the mark!
…and was building a commanding lead!
But Michael was soon into his stride.
Another beautiful Wye Wild Brownie
Best fish of the day!
Stunning!
Mr Mortimer on the Beeb!
In the footsteps of comedy giants!
