A Game of Two Halves … 11th July

July 13, 2019

I’ve had an unusual amount of half day river lessons recently. I don’t suggest them for beginners but for those with some casting and fishing experience, they are a great way to iron out any wrinkles and focus on the stuff that will hopefully put more fish in the net.

If I can book two on the same day then great but if not, I can leave my client to practice what they’ve learned …. and I can go fishing!

Thursday morning was devoted to river casting lessons and the afternoon was spent searching for a good River Dee Grayling. The fishing is still super tough on the river Dee but eventually I found the right combination of water, fly, presentation and good fortune and landed the seasons best Grayling…so far!

The best of the day!

Just beautiful!

  1. Nice grayling, did you catch them on dry fly? I bet they where good fighters. Caught one a similar size yesterday, it was the first time I have ever seen a grayling jump when hooked. It was quite exhilarating on a 3 weight rod.
