Good To Be Back…13th June

June 18, 2020

After the bumper day last week we were hoping to catch the tail end of this years Mayfly hatches on Saturday.

It was our friends Steve and Hilary who very generously gave us our first opportunity to experience a flush Mayfly hatch so it was really good to meet up with them again.

Today was special as Steve who has been battling with some health issues, was making a return to the river after a 3 year absence.

The tension was palpable as Steve eased himself into the water but I’m happy to report that with wife, nurse and fishing guide Hilary by his side, he was soon into his first fish… and on a dry fly no less! I think the picture says it all.

The day was completed by a well choreographed riverside picnic that included local award winning pork pies, homemade cakes and visits from fellow guide Steve Yeomans and the EHK, David Percival…who always seems to know when there will be pork pie!

There was a little fishing done but today was more about appreciating just how great it is to again be able to enjoy such a wonderful spot.

A bridge over the river Wye
Chiara and ‘Percy’ gorge themselves on cake as an expectant dog looks on
A fish from the lagoon
Fish rising to last nights spinners just above the weir

…and in contemplative pose.
