Half Day Heaven … 11th & 14th September

September 16, 2020

Those tortuously long and hot summer fishing days are almost a distant memory. But worry not, these shorter autumnal days are generally far more productive.

It’s been possible to run several morning lessons and still capitalise on the great fishing conditions in the afternoons.

Friday mornings casting lessons were a challenge in the 6m/s winds but my clients coped admirably and have the added bonus of now being able to cast in high winds.

I then made a quick afternoon sprint over to the river Wye where I had my sights on a particular stretch of dry fly water. The wind had now whipped up to 9 m/s so after limited success, a nymph was employed to follow the fish down on to the bottom where they were now languishing.

Monday morning was devoted to getting David started on his quest to master fishing smaller, more intimate rivers.

I was able to then explore a hitherto undiscovered section of one of my favourite rivers and I was very happy that I’d made the additional effort to go and fish it.
