High But Still Dry…1st September

September 2, 2020

Having cancelled this weeks guiding on the Dee due to poor conditions, I was presented with another opportunity to go out and fish.

The Derbyshire Wye is often fishable when the Dee is not so I went back to do some more dry fly fishing.

Again, it was the small cdc patterns that managed to tempt the fish but the real challenge was the presentation. The fish can be ultra picky at this time of the year so splashing fly line, drag, poor turnover, kinked tippet, clumsy wading etc all present the fish with an excuse not to eat your fly.

That’s the frustrating part. The fun part though, is getting it right occasionally.
