In or out? … 9th March

March 11, 2018

There is little doubt that membership of the EU has held us more accountable for pollution at an industrial level. Sadly, that responsibility hasn’t filtered down to all of the individuals in our society.

This stretch of one of Yorkshire’s industrial rivers is up against it. It runs through the city centre and is flanked by factories and industrial estates. It also runs within metres of a major sports stadium and a shopping area, both complete with their obligatory coffee bars and fast food restaurants.

As I got in, I couldn’t help thinking that I‘d be safer wearing a Hazmat suit as opposed to a pair of waders!

Credit though goes to the businesses that line the banks as whilst we consumers continue to dump our waste into the rivers, the majority of these no longer do.

Whether that will change after the protracted Brexit fiasco remains to be seen. For now though, it should be enjoyed for the miracle that it is.

A Defiant urban Grayling
It’s only fair that the Chauffeur gets the best spot.
A hatch brings the Grayling to the surface
Another Pristine Wild Grayling
Battle scarred but battling on
Grayling from the gloom.
