Mad Dogs and Englishmen (and Women)….30th July

July 30, 2018

As July draws to a close, I can honestly say that it has been one of the toughest months fishing and certainly THE toughest months guiding I’ve ever experienced.

Bright sunshine and high temperatures are uncomfortable for fish so they avoid them by taking cover during the day and feeding when it’s cooler at dawn and dusk.

Sadly, this doesn’t coincide with when most clients want to fish. Undeterred, we forged ahead and covered every likely looking swim in the hope that we might encounter an equally crazy fish that had ventured from its hidey-hole in search of a light snack.

This months clients didn’t catch any monsters but they all caught fish when other, experienced anglers we spoke to were writing zeros on their catch returns!

Anita, Julian, Jon, Peter and Keith, I salute your dogged determination, your resolve and your bravery. It will pay dividends.

As you sew, so shall you reap!

Jon finds it hard to mask his disappointment
Ahh, that’s better!
Julian was relentless…
…and caught a rare acrobatic Trout
Anita’s fish didn’t make it to camera…
…so instead, here are some rather fine Cased Caddis!
Peter stayed until dusk…
…and was rewarded with two great fish on successive casts
Keith cleverly sought the shaded flowing water…
…and caught when many were blanking.
