New water … 27th Feb

March 2, 2019

Chomping at the bit to hook up with some late season Grayling, I finally arranged to meet up with CADAC vice Chairman Dylan Roberts to explore one of the clubs Grayling beats.

The Grayling season, along with my opportunities to fish this particular time-shared beat were ebbing away so we met on the bridge at Carrog for a plan of attack.

As often happens with Dylan and I, we did very little fishing. Most of the time was spent walking the whole of the beat and talking about club and fishing related issues as well as experimenting with different rods and leaders. Like myself, Dylan is a learned man (saddo) who is fascinated by anything to do with fly fishing so methods, flies, books, rigs, etc were all on the agenda and the fishing became secondary. That said, some lovely Grayling were caught and it was extremely satisfying to cast to the ONLY Grayling I saw rise all day and watch it eat my Olive pattern. Deep, deep joy!

A short but very enjoyable day.
