Nice to Sea you! …23rd July

July 24, 2017

After casting lessons in the morning at Chirk fishery, I had a couple of hours on CADAC’s Halton beat of the river Dee. The previous nights rain had raised the river and the Salmon anglers were out in the hope that there might be a few more ‘tourists’ around.

I was, as usual targeting Trout and Grayling but I was blessed today with the full game fish quartet which included a Salmon parr and 3 Sea Trout. These small Sea Trout are known as Finnock and are probably returning to the river for the first time. Unlike their parents, these smaller Sea Trout can be quite active during daylight hours and these were caught using standard methods. They are exceptionally good eating but given their epic journey inland, they were all released to continue the cycle.

Flecked with gold…
The first
The biggest
The river
