Practice makes perfect … 26th June

June 27, 2017

Having recently christened his new fly rod with a couple of feisty Stillwater Rainbows, Ifor wanted to fine tune his casting and have a go at the river Dee’s Brown Trout and Grayling.

There were plenty of flies over the water but very few fish were rising regularly. Those that were demanded pinpoint accuracy and an absolute dead drift before they would even look at a fly.

I think it’s fair to say that both Ifor and his new rod got a proper workout but his determination and progress were rewarded with the beautiful wild Brown Trout pictured. We won’t mention the even bigger one that made good his escape after a moment of indecision, but we will mention his first ever Grayling and the fact that all of today’s fish were caught using perfectly presented dry flies!
