River Recce Part 1 …9th June

June 11, 2018

On Saturday, I found myself with a few hours to kill but as I was picking up from the airport and then going on to dinner, actual fishing was out of the question.

The airport is not too far from my ‘local’ river so I decided to walk some of its very public but as yet unexplored stretches. Sadly, today’s visit coincided with the towns annual carnival so the area was even busier than usual.

That said, the further I walked away from the ice cream and fizzy drinks vendors, the quieter it got so I was able to take in the beautiful contradiction of this stunning little wild river that is flanked by mills and factories.

Todays goal was to find likely looking spots and work out how best to get to them. The low summer river level should make accessing some of the tricker spots a little easier. Also, the valuable information gleaned in the summer can pay dividends in the winter or when water is high and/or coloured.

So what did I find? It looks VERY Trouty! Lots of interesting features, structures, boulders, bridges etc. I immediately cleared Monday’s diary!

Rising Fish!
Looks fishy…
View from the bridge. That discarded Zimmer frame might come in handy!
