Slowly but Surely….12th April 2021

April 15, 2021

The Trout streams are slowly coming to life but I’ve still to witness a decent hatch of any of the good sized flies that usually kick the Trout season off good and proper. I’ve not yet seen a Brook Dun, a March Brown or a Grannom and the Large Dark Olive hatches I’ve witnessed have been poor.

With little to get the fish excited, and low, clear and cold water, the Trout have been elusive thus far.

Ironically, the Grayling are loving the conditions and are in all the places I would expect the Trout to be at this stage of the season.

I did though, manage to find a couple of feisty wild brownies in amongst them today on the Goyt so things are looking up, even if the fish aren’t.
