Winter Drawers On!….18th December

December 18, 2018

As another strange fishing year draws to a close, there is a sense of immense irony.
In life and nature it’s fair to say that everything balances out eventually so as we had drought conditions in the summer, its only natural that we should have floods in the winter!

This is extremely inconvenient for a selfish human being like myself who lives only to plunder the North West’s bounteous rivers.

That said, the less than perfect conditions don’t put a halt to all fishing related pursuits. When you can get in it, the river Dee is fishing well as evidenced by the 900+ Grayling caught during this years Hanak international Grayling Festival.

Personally, I’ve only managed a few short, wet and cold visits to the Dee but they have so far kept the embers smouldering. There has also been the other stuff like attending GAIA CPPD training days, equipment maintenance and watching videos (research) as well as tying a few flies for the thinning summer boxes.

I’ve no doubt that I will be out (weather permitting) over the Xmas period so for those waiting patiently for ‘the nod’, don’t eat so much Turkey that you can’t get into your waders!

Merry Christmas!
