Those of us that join clubs often ask ourselves if it’s worth renewing the membership, usually around the time that the reminder drops through the door.

Those balmy summer afternoons on the river are dim and distant memories by the time the subs are due again.

 

Chris invited me over to help him assess this years decision on his river Tanat membership as ill health, poor weather and low catch rates were making this end of year outlay tough to justify.

 

The dropping Tanat looked promising on arrival but it was much colder than it had been recently so it wouldn’t be easy early on. We searched the most likely looking spots for Grayling and managed a couple on nymphs before a small hatch of olives brought some small fish to the surface.

 

Things were looking good until the heavens opened at 1pm and a soggy Chris announced he’d had enough.

 

So, is he going to renew? The jury is still out!
